Since it's November, I have started thinking about what I'm going to put on my wish list for Christmas - does this make me sound like a 5 year old? Even if it does, my family would rather get me gifts I'm going to love than something I'll never use. Makes sense, right?
Anyways, I have been thinking of switching up my art lately. I love all of it, but I just need to move things around...and add a new piece or two!
And a Suzani or Otomi textile piece is where it's at!
A Suzani is a type of embroidered and decorative textile from South Asian countries, while an Otomi is another embroidered textile, but made from the indigenous people of Mexico.
These textiles can really be used anywhere, but I'm interested in hanging one above my sofa.
Two Suzani panels framed above the sofa
A large piece of Otomi fabric
A large Suzani tapestry
An Otomi framed in gold
A square Suzani
A colourful Otomi
As you might have guessed, I'm more drawn to the Otomi pieces, but I've been doing some searching on EBay and Otomi is more expensive than Suzani. A large Otomi piece goes for about $300, while a vintage Suzani is around $100.
I guess I'll put both on my list and see what happens :)
