Back in March, I showed you the big plans for Keaton’s new big boy room. And now, in June, it is finally done – things move slowly around here!
The best part of this room is that it was done on an extremely low budget, mostly because we ended up using a lot of things we already had and it’s also a pretty small room, so there wasn’t that much space to fill.
Once I show you the different aspects of the room, I’ll break down the costs. Here goes:
The light is from Ikea. It’s the Foto Ceiling Lamp. This picture doesn’t even show its true size – it is massive!
The other side of the room. That dresser was a cast off from Aidan’s boss – the before and after post will be soon. It’s pretty dramatic!
The side table used to be in my brother’s room, but my Mom let me “borrow” it for the time being. I bought that globe for $10 from Craigslist. The lamp base used to be in our bedroom and I just jazzed up the shade with pom pom trim – Aidan poo-pooed the trim everywhere else in the room, so I snuck it on here!
Because the skyline is art in itself, we wanted to try and keep art on the walls to a minimum. Therefore, we just set up some frames on his dresser.
Playmobil Print – My Mom bought this for Keaton from the One of a Kind Show in the Spring – just perfect for a boys room
Paint by Numbers Art Block – I actually bought this for myself from OOAK (same seller as above), but thought it would look perfect in this room
Framed Card – My mother-in-law bought me this card. The colours were perfect, so I used the same paper as on the letters for the matting
For my baby shower, my Mom got me this funky frame and, inside, she wrote a little funny saying from the “cleaning fairy” saying that it wasn’t right that a new mother had to clean her house. She got me a gift card to Molly Maids for one cleaning – it was heaven! And my parents just brought back that little dragon from California
This little ottoman was my first attempt at upholstery. It’s not the greatest, but it’s the perfect little stepping stool for Keaton to get into his bed. Another before and after post is coming up.
I call this “the reading nook”. The chair barely fits in this little corner, but it’s a cozy spot to read and look out the window. You can see a glimpse of the curtains there made out of Ikea’s Monalis fabric. Those are no-sew curtains with a black-out layer people!! Stay tuned for the DIY instructions.
This art in the reading nook is really what inspired the whole white, green and black colour scheme, especially Pip the Pirate there. They are from Etsy seller, and local artist, Kukucaju.
And lastly, Keaton’s flying monster. I got it at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition a couple of years ago. It looks like it’s attacking the city…but I think it may be scary for Keaton down the road :)

And I guess the other thing you’re wondering about is whether Keaton likes his new room….Well, at first, he couldn’t have really cared less. After I had finished painting the skyline, I did a big reveal and I swear he didn’t even notice! But now that it’s all done and he’s sleeping in there, he really does love it. Whenever a guest comes over, he always has to take them on a tour to his room and he always has this proud look on his face. And that’s all that matters right??
