The colour scheme for the party was black, white and green. I have been really enjoying that colour combo since working on Keaton’s big boy room (see moodboard here), so I decided to implement it for the party.
Green Ruffled Streamers (above window) – One of the easiest projects I’ve ever done. All you need is a plastic tablecloth and a pair of scissors. I got the idea from Cupcakes and Cutlery. You can check out the whole project here.
Tablecloth – I call this fabric “Dalmation Spots”. I bought it online from Premier Fabrics to reupholster an ottoman for Keaton’s room. I clearly bought way too much, but it definitely came in handy for the party.

Table Runner – I had a roll of artificial turf in storage (don’t ask!), so I used it as a bit of a table runner to introduce some green to the mix. I think it adds a bit of texture to the table.
Balloons – These balloons are amazing! They are 36” around and are completely round. You probably won’t be able to find these at your regular party store because I had a hard time track them down myself. I ended up ordering them online from a Canadian online shop called Brilliant Bash and got them filled with helium at a local store. And the balloons were held down by….
Spray-painted animals! I bought these large plastic animals at the Dollar Store for $2 each and they were perfect weights for the balloons. Keaton is really obsessed with animals right now, so he LOVED them!
The cupcakes were provided by Sweet Escapes, my lovely sponsor. I told Jenn that I wanted black and white cupcakes and she sent me a bunch of designs for the “K’s” and “2’s”. I chose my favourite four designs – aren’t they adorable? And they were so tasty too! The felt flags in the cupcakes were from one of my favourite Etsy shops (and blogger!), Hank and Hunt.
Jenn had some leftover mini cupcakes from some other orders for the weekend, so they threw in all of these too – again, so yummy!
These tasty things are called Cake Balls. I jumped on a Groupon a while ago for 10 cake balls from For The Love Of Cake, in Liberty Village, in Toronto. They basically tasted like chocolate covered timbits! Mmmmm!
These weird shaped things are the only dessert I tackled on my own (as you can tell!). They are cheesecake pops and, despite the look of them, they tasted really good! I got the recipe here. It seemed so easy, but cheesecake is very hard to roll into balls, surprisingly. The sticks are actually paper straws. I also got them from Brilliant Bash.
(note: it looks a little bare, but more appetizers were added to the table once more guests arrived…haha)
The artificial turf was used again as a table runner. I have these great green placemats that we got for our wedding that I used on top of of the turf. Just one balloon this time and it’s being held down by a black horse. And the zig zag accordion streamers were probably the easiest decoration I have ever made! I got the idea from the fabulous blog Oh Happy Day.
And here is the birthday boy in all his black, white and green glory...eating a cucumber, may I add:
Oh and behind him, I set up a piece of yarn with mini clothespins. Every guest had to take a picture of themselves with Keaton and add it to the collection. I want to start using my Polaroid camera more and, eventually, create a wall of Polaroids.
In short, it was a great time was had by all and Keaton was super spoiled as usual. I want to say a special thanks to my sister, Allie, for being my photographer and taking such lovely photos.
And if you missed it on Friday, I am having a Mother’s Day Cupcake Giveaway, courtesy of Sweet Escapes, for anyone in the GTA area. You can enter for your chance to win 1 of 5 dozen mini cupcakes to share with your Momma here.
