cool company – Canadian salvaged timber

I had been looking for a piece of wood for a project that I was working on for an upcoming Dabble Magazine article and this company was referenced on one of the Canadian House and Home Online TV episodes.  I decided to go check them out.

Canadian Salvaged Timber is a reclaimed wood wholesaler and design shop in downtown Toronto.  They salvage wood from various locations around Toronto and then turn it into beautiful pieces of furniture and art.  Their warehouse/office space is amazing!

I was like a kid in a candy store!! I managed to find the perfect piece of wood for my project and I also got some ideas for a dining room table that I have been dreaming about for a while.  I love the stainless steel legs on my table, but the stainless steel top is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean, so I want to get a new table top made by CST using salvaged wood – I was really eyeing the barn wood on the right there.  If you wanted to do a whole table in salvaged timber, you could always go with this:

Cool eh? I was also digging that art!

Not only was it a really neat spot to visit, the staff there were super nice and very helpful! If you are in the market for this type of thing, I would definitely suggest giving them a call.

And on another note, not to make you jealous or anything, but I won two amazing blog giveaways yesterday! A beautiful cashmere sweater from via Compai and a really cute dress from Lucky Penny! Thanks so much to both blogs!

I've heard of the company before, but thanks so much for giving us a look at what it's like! It may come in handy for a project B and I discussed on the weekend!

Hopefully I'll make it on the 30th, and I will definitely fill you in! I'll know by Thursday night!

I'd check Chapters for sure! I'm not sure what end of the city you are in, but I usually go to the Chapters by Sherway Gardens for the paper. They have a good selection and recently they were all marked down 75%!

Thanks

Just.... Yum.

Oh. And I think this shop may have been used in an episode of Colin and Justin's Home Heist.

Now to find the Vancouver equivalent...

Wow - what I great find, thanks for sharing and great timing for me! I'm thinking about using a barn beam for a fireplace mantel in my basement and have recently researched kijiji and http://urbantreesalvage.com/index.php for pieces. How was the pricing? Congrats on the wins!!

How neat! I love wood as art, because it's so unpredictable and organic. No two pieces look the same!

I love the richness and the story behind the wood.

Kerry - thanks for the info on the paper - I'll check it out!

Wendy and Pauline - not sure about their prices - the piece of wood I got was just a scrap. I would check with them.

I absolutely love using wood in interiors. Especially salvaged rustic woods. So organic and beautiful. My hubs is also a woodworker and it''s great to see him ytake a block of wood and turn it into art.

Love this post!

Oooh, I see lots of fantastic pieces of wood in your pictures!! I love old salvaged wood -- it has so much character with the dents & dings & nail holes.

Looking forward to seeing your project :-)
