Sticker Wallpaper

I was clicking through my RSS feeds yesterday and came across this post from Apartment Therapy that caught my eye.
I didn't even read into the article, I just thought, "Hey, that is really cool wallpaper", so I clicked on the link that AT provided and was blown away when I realized what this wallpaper was made of! Good ol' kids stickers!

Can you believe it?? I had an album full of these guys back in elementary school that I used to collect and trade at recess! Payton Turner, the young artist that creates these designs is incredibly talented.  Check out her website here.  Her work has been featured at a couple of exhibitions.  I still can't believe they are stickers!

These images has left me thinking about two things:
  1. What other items that I collected in elementary school can be used for art? How about framed Garbage Pail Kids Collector Cards? Ha ha. Anyone remember those?
  2. I want to give this a try! Although I'm sure my designs wouldn't turn out as well as Payton's
Oh and a third thought - I officially have 100 followers!! Thanks to Cathy from The Far Fifty for getting me to this momentous number! And for the rest of my 1-99 followers - you are the best!

Holy crap!! AWESOME!!!! Can you imagine the time and patience it takes to create one wall, let alone FOUR!!??

I think it would be good to start small if you're going to try this project. You could create a piece of artwork to frame and hang. I hope you try it, and if you do, you HAVE to let us know how it goes!!

    Congrats on 100 followers :-)

Omg this is amazing! I love the idea. I wonder how long it took to do that whole room. Maybe I could start out trying this as artwork, instead of a whole wall!

Oh my god, this is so incredible!! But I don't think you should try to make it for yourself, since it is her own artwork and original idea, plus you never know about copyright, etc.

Actually, Poppies, I do do it as singular artwork as well as whole entire walls. Sally is correct. I would appreciate it if you would respect the fact that it is my original idea and artwork, and not copy it. However, I'm thrilled that you enjoy it so much, so thank you for the positive response!

    Thanks again,
    Payton

Turner's sticker wallpaper is NOT some little crafty project that people can "copy." Turner holds a BFA, and is a working artist whose sticker
wallpaper is commissioned by clients. It is her own original idea, as Sally says. Copyright is involved, and so are intellectual property rights. It is precise, carefully designed and executed and the culmination of artistic vision, as well as years of design work. Just because a person can buy stickers doesn't mean they can create what Turner, and her business partner, design and create. If it were, then "everyone" would have painted Campbell's Soup cans, like Andy Warhol, and "everyone" would be displayed in museums.Turner makes art, not a craft project.

Visit Turner's company website, FlatVernacular.com. Besides her luscious
sticker wallpaper, she and her partner create hand painted and hand
screened wallpapers, as well as digitally produced designs. They have an upcoming show in Nov. FlatVernacular.com. Copyrighted designs.
Custom wallpapers. Am thrilled to be able to finally buy some.

Thank you for all your comments!

Just to reiterate, I am in awe of Payton's work and I know her designs are one of a kind. I believe the comments above were just a reflection of that awe and I hope no one was offended.

    Thanks again!

Can you imagine the time it takes to create that wallpaper? It's so beautiful.

I loved friendship bracelets out of embroidery floss... couldn't those be used to decorate somehow??
