I have never thought much about prop styling beyond the styling that goes into magazines that I read. I did get a little taste of it last week though while I was taking pictures for my upcoming articles for Dabble Magazine...and I liked it! I don't want to reveal what the articles are about, but I spent a lot of time trying to get the perfect shot - collecting little odds and ends around my house that look good together to enhance the photo. That got me thinking - what a great job!!!
I know of a local prop stylist, through a friend, named Lynda Felton. Not only is she a prop stylist, but she also works as a freelance writer, decorator and floral designer. A woman of many talents! Her list of clients is pretty impressive - Chatelaine, Style at Home, Canadian Living, Joe Fresh, Home Depot, Target, The Bay, HomeSense and more!
Here are a few of her portfolio shots:
Wouldn't it be a cool job? I'm going to try and think more like a prop stylist when I take photos from now on because it really makes a difference, don't you think?
And stay tuned for Dabble. The staff over at Kimberley Seldon Design Group are working really hard to put it together and it is going to be amazing! The best online magazine yet!

Urban Mode is my Aunt's store! I can't believe that you listed it here! That's awesome. And as usual another great article.
I love styling photos! I recently redid a bunch of photos for my website, and had so much fun adding those little styling touches in. What a great post Shannon, and I am so excited for you and all the fabulous ladies at Dabble! xo
oooo! Great styling pics. I'm looking forward to checking out Dabble!!
I think it would be so much fun to be a stylist! Good creative fun!
that would be fun, but a lot of pressure and stress too!
I don't know about Dabble - but I can promise you that my new on-line magazine (which is do to launch their September) is going to kick ass.
Thanks for the shout-out Shannon! I love your blog by the way.
As for being a prop stylist - it is harder than it looks and often times it requires much transporting of much stuff. So fun yes but stressful big YES.
Love these photos...curious about Dabble, sounds interesting!
